The Ayurvedic Guide to Self-Care through the 5 Love Languages
Do you love yourself in your love language?
Do you know what your love language is? If so, keep reading. If not, take this quiz to find out. It’s fun, I promise!
Like Ayurveda, the Love Languages recognize that we are all different. We all approach love differently - we give and receive love in different ways. Our Love Language can show us how to better connect with those we love, including ourselves.
As I was contemplating practices for self-love, I kept thinking of how each one would fit perfectly for each of the 5 Love Languages, so I decided to create and Ayurvedic inspired guide to self-care using the Love Languages.
I’ve come to realize that having self-care rituals that feel good and true to you can make a huge difference in how you feel about yourself and can bring more energy, peace and ease to your day.
This was super fun to make! I hope you enjoy! As always, take what works for you and leave the rest.
The Ayurvedic Guide to Self Care using the 5 Love Languages:
1. Physical Touch:
Abhyanga - Ayurvedic self-massage with oil. Click here for a guide.
Placing a hand over your heart, gently holding your face in your hands or wrapping your arms around your shoulders and taking a moment to be present with the sensation of holding yourself. Try to be present and open to whatever might come up. If it resonates with you to do so, finish this practice by journaling on your experience.
** NOTE: If something comes up that feels too heavy or emotional for you to hold on your own, pause and do something comforting: make a cup of tea, go for a walk, read a book, etc.
2. Quality Time:
Spend some time alone in nature. Go for a walk or lay out a blanket and take in your surroundings.
Take yourself on an Artist’s Date with your creativity. Paint, draw, build something, create a mandala with things found in your back yard, bake — create for the sake of creating, not worrying about any outcome, just let your intuitive side take over and have some fun.
Dance! Just for you - like no one’s watching! (cause they’re not!)
3. Acts of Service:
Cook a nutritious meal just for you with all of your favorite ingredients, like these pretty, heart-space colored Beet & Scallion Sourdough Pancakes
Draw yourself a bath with epsom salts and essential oils. Pour yourself a hot cup of tea, light some candles and enjoy!
Do something for future you: make yourself lunch for the next day, pick out an outfit the night before so you can sleep a little longer, put a favorite treat in your bag for a sweet surprise later.
5. Gifts:
Treat yourself to something you’ve been wanting: like a yoga class, an online course or something for self-care, like a tongue scraper, massage oil or Ayurvedic tea.
Make yourself a gift.
Create an experience. Where is somewhere you’ve been wanting to visit?
Gift yourself a full night’s sleep.
Buy yourself flowers, just because!
4. Words of Affirmation:
Write yourself a love letter. You might include: what you love about yourself, what your strengths are, tell yourself you are proud of how far you’ve come
Take some time to consider something you’ve stuck with, let go of or accomplished recently and celebrate yourself.
